Guess who’s back?! Yup, it’s your favorite Gila Monster, Chance! And I’ve brought one of my good friends with me - this month’s featured Vegas Golden Knights Collectible Player Bookmark star, Zach Whitecloud!

Hailing from Brandon, Manitoba, the Canadian defenseman is the first Indigenous NHL player from the Sioux Valley Dakota Nation, and he’s making his community proud. "Numerous people who've never watched hockey, even the elderly men and women, are staying up late to watch the games and they're very proud that he's representing our community and Manitoba and Brandon in general,” Zach’s father, Tim, told NHL.com last year.

Zach’s an easy person to root for. The 24-year-old has a classic underdog story. He wasn’t snatched up fresh out of high school, nor was he a top prospect during college. But as the saying goes, slow and steady wins the race. We grabbed Zach in 2018, when he was an undrafted college free agent. He spent a couple seasons with our AHL affiliate, the Chicago Wolves, before rejoining our squad in the 2019-2020 season. And what an impact he has made!

He’s become one of our most dependable players, and not just on defense. He shows us a ton of offensive flair, and is quick to read plays and take shots when the opportunity arises.

While he’s got all the makings of a superstar, the ever-humble fellow just wants to be a good team player. When he got signed in 2018, he told the Winnipeg Sun, “I just want to be a good person that can go into a room and have a positive effect and just contribute my part to the overall goal.”
