MARK STONE, RIGHT WING/TEAM CAPTAIN

MARK STONE, RIGHT WING
TEAM CAPTAIN

Hey Golden Knights fans! It’s Knight Time with your favorite mascot, Chance the Gila Monster. I hope you are enjoying the season so far. I know I am, especially because one of our super scorers has returned to the ice. I’m talking about Right Wing Mark Stone, who is without a doubt one of the best two-way forwards in the League and is this month’s Vegas Golden Knights Collectible Team Bookmark star.

Not only does Mark routinely put up solid net numbers for Vegas, delivering two 60-plus point regular seasons, as well as 37 points in 46 playoff games with the Golden Knights, but on January 13, 2021, he was named the first captain in franchise history.

“Honestly, I was kind of speechless,” Mark told SB Nation, detailing the moment that VGK head coach Pete DeBoer bestowed the title. “It’s very humbling for me. It’s a big honor. Something I’m not going to take lightly….”

And it's well deserved! Since Mark joined the Golden Knights during the 2018-19 season, the 29-year-old has consistently been a top playmaker, recording the team’s first postseason hat trick during the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs. His first-career hat trick powered the Golden Knights to a 6-3 victory against the San Jose Sharks. In recognition of his excellent two-way play during the 2019-20 regular season, Mark was runner-up for the Frank J. Selke Trophy as the League's best defensive forward.

Medieval Maniacs have a lot to cheer about because the VGK captain will be around for the long haul. On March 8, 2019, Mark signed an eight-year contract extension to remain in Vegas.

Even though this wily wingman has achieved so much and is on a road many could only dream of, the journey is far from over.

“This is an organization that wants to win and wants to win now, ”Mark said of bringing the Stanley Cup home to Vegas, “We’ve got to have everybody who’s part of this organization committed to winning and being the top team at the end of the season.”
